How To Find Summer Seasonal Work

How To Find Summer Seasonal Work

It’s that time of year when people are looking for summer seasonal work. Some people need temporary work during the summertime as a stop gap between their holidays or returning to their studies. Others might just need some extra income to support them before starting a new permanent job later in the year. Whether you’re a school leaver, graduate or you’re just looking for a temporary job, we share common roles to help you earn much-needed cash!

Warehouse work
Working as a team, warehouse roles are ideal for anyone looking for extra income. Summertime is an especially busy time for the storage industry. Warehouses start receiving stock ready to go into stores for the festive season (we won’t mention the ‘C’ word just yet!). The work itself usually involves picking, packing, sorting, moving and labelling stock, and other duties. As it's manual work, it’s also a great way to keep your fitness levels up too!

Hospitality roles
When the sun comes out, there’s an increase in people going out for drinks and meals. Restaurants, bars and cafes often take on extra staff during the summer months when they get busy. Previous experience is helpful but not always a necessity. Working behind a bar or serving diners is a great way to improve your customer service skills. As you’ll be working in a team, you’ll need to be sociable, so these types of roles are a great way to meet people.

Building labourers
The construction industry is another sector which gets busy during the summertime. Once you start working in construction, there are ample opportunities for you to gain new skills and earn more money. Basic labouring might not require any skills or training, but it’s worthwhile qualifying for the CSCS card. This will provide you with more opportunities to work on building sites. Some people undertake the SMSTS qualification to become Site Managers.

Fruit picking
If you enjoy working outside in the sunshine, then you might enjoy fruit-picking. There are various farms around the country, where you can pick fruit and vegetables for a few months each year. There are always opportunities available in this type of seasonal job. In fact, people travel to the UK from all over the world each year to work on our fruit-picking farms! It’s simple work and another great way to keep fit - and you’ll get a great suntan!

During the summer months, there are lots of different roles you can do to earn extra cash. Remember, employers will be looking for people they can rely on to stay for the season. If you have been studying and working, make sure your CV reflects all your experience. Whether you prefer working outdoors or indoors, many jobs offer full training too.
