5 Different Types of Outdoor Jobs

Are you someone who prefers working outside? Do you enjoy the beauty of nature, long walks, or just working under the open sky? From Gardeners to Park Rangers, we look at five outdoor jobs that will appeal to nature enthusiasts and fitness fanatics.

1.     Gardener: Cultivating our green spaces
If you have green fingers and a passion for plants, becoming a Gardener might be your ideal outdoor job. You would have the opportunity to transform a variety of landscapes into beautiful spaces. From planting and pruning to maintaining and nurturing, gardeners work with a wide range of plant species. You might work in private, public or commercially owned gardens of all shapes and sizes.

2.     Wildlife Conservationist: Protecting our natural environment

Do you have a deep love for wildlife? Working as a Wildlife Conservationist, you would be helping to preserve endangered species. You would monitor wildlife populations, conduct research, and raise awareness about environmental issues. Spending a lot of time outdoors, you would observe and study animals in their natural habitats to ensure their long-term survival. This is a qualified role, usually requiring a relevant degree.

3.     Refuse Collector: Keeping our local environment clean
Although a Refuse Collector might not sound as glamorous as other outdoor roles, it’s an extremely important job. Refuse Collectors are crucial in keeping our local communities clean, so we can enjoy a healthy living environment. This outdoor job involves working as part of a team, collecting bins and disposing of waste materials. There’s a lot of heavy lifting and walking involved, often between 10 – 15 miles a day, so if you’re sociable and like keeping fit, this is a great job for you!

4.     Park Ranger: Guarding our natural parklands
If you have a passion for the great outdoors and want to help protect and educate others about our natural spaces, a career as a Park Ranger could be the perfect fit! Park Rangers work in national parks and nature reserves, safeguarding our protected areas and helping to enforce environmental regulations. They provide information and guidance to visitors, spending their days surrounded by stunning landscapes.

5.     Postal Worker: Delivering mail and parcels
Love getting up early and walking for miles? A Postal Worker is a very important role, helping to deliver our mail and parcels come rain or shine. With an early start and depending on the type of role on offer, you could be home in the afternoon to enjoy the rest of your day. Some roles involved driving postal vans, whereas other roles are on foot. So, if you enjoy being outside, this could be the ideal job for you.

There are plenty of other roles you can do outside, and they don’t all require certain skills. At Hiring Strategies, we often recruit roles for local authorities including Gardeners and Refuse Collectors. So, keep an eye on our job board for our latest opportunities and vacancies.
