The Importance of Having a Traditional Summer Holiday

The Importance of Having a Traditional Summer Holiday

Whether you prefer a UK break or an international getaway, the importance of having a traditional summer holiday cannot be understated! Time away from your workplace or your business gives you the chance to reset, relax and unwind. Holiday time allows you to rest, so you can return to work feeling refreshed. And this means you will work much better too!

Did you know that companies in the UK must offer at least 28-days’ paid holiday a year for people working a 5-day week? Even the government recognises the need for time off. So, what have you planned for your summer holiday this year? Here are some last-minute ideas.

Not booked anything? Lastminute.com…
We might already be in late summer, but that doesn’t mean it’s too late to book a holiday! Many holiday cottage websites will have a few places left and you might get a heavily discounted price. It’s also worth checking last-minute deals on holiday package websites, such as Jet2.com, or ask a travel agent if you’re busy. The bonus of late bookings is the fact you can check the weather, especially as it’s been very changeable in the UK this year!

Can’t get away for long? Find your happy…
If you can only take a couple of days off this summer, why not go on a mini break that matches your interests? There are places around the country where you can enjoy a variety of activities and learn new skills. Start by finding a course or retreat in an area that appeals to you, for example, foraging for wild food, throwing pots or learning to paint. Then, find a hotel, cottage or campsite nearby. This is a different way to take a break this summer.

Holiday too pricey? Become a day tripper…
If you have kids and you have taken a week off to spend time with them, there are still plenty of ways to enjoy a traditional summer holiday. Why not make the most of what the UK has to offer with some great days out? In the Midlands, Warwick Castle has become a theme-park attraction with lots of medieval entertainment. A more budget-friendly option could be driving to the coast for a beach picnic - just bring along your bucket and spade or a bat and ball!

Summer’s not an option? Plan ahead…
If you really can’t take any time off this summer, don’t despair! Make sure you still take a full holiday later in the year. Save up any overtime or bonuses and look at winter holidays abroad. Hop across the English Channel to the continent for snow fun in the French or Swiss Alps. If you have a bigger budget, head to Lapland or Iceland for a glimpse of the Northern Lights. And if you like it hot, then the Canary Islands are always a safe bet for winter sun!
